Physical Characteristic

 

Identification (1)

Triturate dl-Menthol with an equal quantity of camphor or thymol. The mixture is liquefied.

Identification (2)

To 1 g of dl-Menthol, add 20 ml of sulfuric acid, and shake. Yellowish red turbidity appears. Allow to stand for 24 hours. A transparent, oily layer having no odor of menthol separates.
